Simon Msafiri Balthazar

Simon Msafiri Balthazar is the Technical Contact for .tz ccTLD at the Tanzania Network Information Centre (tzNIC), with the responsibility for managing the technical operations of the registry. Apart from technical operations, Simon forms part of management team of tzNIC, which pioneered the re-delegation of .TZ domain back in 2009.

Simon is very active in the development of Internet both locally and in the African region where he volunteers regularly as a trainer for the Tanzania Network Operators Group and the Africa Top Level Domain (AFTLD), an association of top level country code domain name (ccTLD) managers in the African region.

In his leisure time, Simon enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and sports. One of his proudest moment was summiting Mount Longonot (2780m) in Kenya. In his youth, he played for the USIU Basketball team which participated in the Kenyan Basketball Federation Premier League between 2001 and 2003 and the Don Bosco Basketball Team which participated in Dar es Salaam Regional Basketball League between 1998 and 2000.

Simon’s parents originate from the Chagga tribe and were born and bred on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro in Komalyangoe village, Marangu. With all this history, Simon never sought the opportunity to climb the great Kilimanjaro. It is now and for a very good cause of promoting our beloved geoTLD .AFRICA that he is joining the Mount Kilimanjaro summit team to take the flag up to the highest point of Africa.
